Joseph Gray was convicted 13 Sep 1820 Middlesex Gaol Delivery, aged 18 yrs.
Crime - larceny of the person (on 2 Sep 1820), trial Transcript #1025.
#1025 - JOSEPH GRAY was indicted for feloniously assaulting James Everitt on the King's highway, onthe 2nd September, putting him in fear, & taking from his person, & against his will, one watch, value 5P; one chain, value 2P; two seals, value2P; & one key, value 8s, his property. ( 8.8s)
JAMES EVERITT - I am a back-maker, & live in Compton St, Clerkenwell. On 2nd Sept., about 3 o"clock in the afternoon, I was told the Queen was passing, & went to the end of the street into Goswell St. A number of people were collected, & as I got to the end of the street, the prisoner struck me in the lower part of my belly, & pulled my watch out in an instant as he struck me. I saw him hand it over to his companions, & secured him immediately. I am sure he is the man. I have not recovered it.
ALLEN SPRAGG - I am a servant of Mr. Everitt. I saw the Queen coming up Goswell St, & fetched my master to the corner of Compton St, & saw the prisoner snatch the watch from his pocket, I immediately laid hold of him, & saw him pass it to another. GUILTY Aged 18 years.
