Yorkshire Herald Sep 1879 - FOUND DEAD IN A DITCH - Mr T.S.Brown, coronor, held an inquest on Saturday last, at the house of Mr. Thos.Throup, Silsden, on the body of Jeremiah Booth Dawson, a farmer aged 80 years of Silsden, who had been found dead on the road. It appeared that the deceased was last seen on the previous day by Ann Green, his sister-.in-law. He was going to see a Mr. Jackson. He was found at 5.25pm by Eliza Jane Horsfield quite dead in a ditch with his face under water. 2pounds & 2pence & a watch in his possession. The jury returned a verdict of 'Found dead in a ditch with no marks of violence'.
Yorkshire News - 6.9.1879, FATAL ACCIDENT - An inquest was held on Saturday before Mr.T.S.Brown, Coronor touching the death of Mr Jeremiah Dawson, late of Brunthwaite. It appears that the deceased, who had been living with his son, Mr Leonard Dawson, had gone to Brunthwaite to see some of his grandchildren. On his return and when trying to get through a stile in the fields he had walked into a ditch where he was found suffocated. The deceased being over 80 years of age, his sight had become very dim & it is supposed that this was the cause of the accident. The jury returned a verdict od "Accidental Death".
