Narrative

Thomas, a carpenter & cabinet maker, arrived in the colony as a bounty emigrant with his family, on the ship "England", which arrived at Port Phillip on 17th July 1841 from Liverpool, England. The ship was quarantined due to an outbrake of whooping couph, but went on to Sydney arriving on Tuesday 17th August, 1841 with sundary goods & passengers in steerage. In August 1844 Thomas charged Elizabeth Smith with stealing a shirt at West Maitland. Thomas suffered from rheumatism & was receiving treattment at the Maitland Benevolent Asylumn in 1844. He was later fined 10/- (ten shillings) for drunkeness in Maitland on 6 March 1847.
Thomas died on 22 February 1853 aged 50 years at West Maitland & was buried on 24 Feb. 1853 at Campbell Hill Cemetery at West Maitland (now known as South Street, Telarah), Sec B8, Plot 10, without a headstone. Thomas was listed as a labourer. Rev Chapman officiated. (V1853 1875 39B).
