Maria arrived, aged 11yrs, with her parents,Thomas & Eliza Lloyd, both 38yrs, also her brother - Charles, 12yrs, & sister - Caroline, 8yrs, as bounty immigrants on 17Aug,1841 at Port Phillip, Melbourne on the ship "England". The ship was Quarantined with whooping cough, then came on to Sydney on Tuesday 17/8/1841 with goods & 344 passengers in steerage. They paid a total of 63 pounds 60 pence for their passage.
Maria had had Hemiplegia (paralisis of left side) for 4yrs but suffered an apoplexy (stroke with further paralysis) for three quarters of an hour & died on the 8/4/1876 at her residence, 395 Macquarie Street South, near Campbell St, Sydney, NSW. She had been attended by Dr MacKenzie on the same day. The witnesses were Samuel Cope & C. Kinsela jnr.
SMH - Death - The friends of Mr Henry Sims are respectfully invited to attend the Funeral of his late beloved Wife, MARIA; to move from his residence, 395 Macquarie St. South, near Campbell St, this (Monday) Morning, at half-past 8 o'clock, to The Necropolis. C. Kinsela & Sons, Undertakers. The Necropolis was also known as Haslams Creek before it became Rookwood. Maria is the 1st name on the Headstone, & her husband "James Hornblower - husband of the above" is the 2nd name. Also the death of 2 William Sims, one died 1878, & the 2nd died 1913, & Ethel Mannel, died 1885, & Maria L. Noad, died 1886. Also Roxana Noad died 1923, & George Frederick Noad died 1933, are on a plaque in front.
Child 3 - Frederick Sims - later Pascoe, was born to Maria Sims at West Maitland on 4/5/1851 & baptised as a Wesleyan Methodist at West Maitland in the Hunter River Circuit on 27/7/1851, by Rev S. Rathbone.
Child 6 - Sarah Anne Sims. Sarah was baptised into the Church of England, in 1856. She may not belong to us.
Child 7 & 8 - Charles & Clara Sims. May have been twins. Clara was christened by Rev M Turner as Wesleyan Methodist. Charles wasn't christened at the same time, so he might have died at birth. They had both died in 1856.
Child 9 - George G Sims was christened by Rev B Chapman as a Wesleyan Methodist.
