Narrative

Caroline & Moses Gazzard's headstone reads - In Affectionate Rememberance of CAROLINE, the beloved wife of MOSES GAZZARD, who departed this life 21st September, 1891, Aged 53 years. " Sleep on mother, take thy rest, God called you home when he thought best, In love you lived, in peace you died, Your life was craved but God denied." Also MOSES GAZZARD, husband of the above, Died 18th January, 1901, Aged 72 years, "At Rest". The headstone is Anthropomorphic, white marble, on step & sandstone plinth (4ft5ins x 2ft 2ins x 4ins). Lead letters, decorated with a garland of flowers at top & leaves at base. In a family plot enclosed by a sandstone kerb (6ft x 8ft), faces West, poor condition had been broken, but now repaired.
Arrived NSW - Sydney 29 May, 1855 on "Victory". Residences - 1856, Ironbark Hill, Smithfield??, 1857 Marsden Rd, Nth Parramatta, also "Caroline Villa" Marion St, Parramatta.
Moses Gazzard had a number of occupations in Parramatta. He was a carrier & water-cart operator. The Sands Directory of 1884 lists him as the "china & glass warehouse" Also for 30 or 40yrs he was treasurer and an officer in the Ancient Order of Forresters, Membership Court Order of Australia, #2488.
