SMH - SPENCE, Lois Betty Lundie - Aged 84 years, died 17 July, 2006 in Irvington, Virginia on the Chesapeake Bay. Mrs. Spence was born in Parramatta & educated at Meriden School, was later a resident of Homebush & Queenscliffe, NSW. Her parents were Ernest & Cassdie Hart Lundie. Her uncle William Hart, was the famous aviator of the early 1900's. In 1945, Mrs. Spence crossed the Pacific on the troop ship U.S.S. Lurline as a war bride of E. Leslie Spence 111 of Richmond, Virginia. Major Spence, an A-20 light bomber Pilot with the U.S. Fifth Army Air Corp during WW11, had been stationed in Port Moresby, New Guinea. Mrs. Spence spent her married life in Virginia - four years in Richmond, 30 years in Christiansburg & 20 years in Kilmarnock. Throughout her life she was active in golf, tennis, bridge & the Episcopal Church. Among many leadership positions, she was president of the Virginia Ladies Golf Assn., on the Board of Directors of both Indian Creek Yatch & Country Club & on the Bank of Christiansburg. Preceeded in death by her husband, she is survived by two daughters, Lundie Spence & her husband Bob Bacon of Charleston, South Carolina, & Robin Spence & her husband, Shipley Lucas of Baltimore, Maryland; two grandsons, Emmet & Cliff Lucas. She is also survived by her Australian cousins; Graham & Dick Hart & Susan McCreadie, & John Muddle.
A Memorial Service will be held at 2pm Thursday, 20 July, 2006 at Wicomico Episcopal Church, Virginia.
