Narrative

John became a weaver at Scarfoot & became a member of the Trawden meeting of the Quakers. John married Ruth Ellison in March 1751 on a farm owned bt Quakers at Crawshawbooth called Scarfoot, which is north of Haslingden. (Crawshawbooth means "crow wood farm". Scarfoot farm was something like a dairy, there was subsistence farm work & cotton spinning & weaving. John's wife Ruth was born in 1723 at Carr in Rossendale & had been baptised at Whalley. Between them they had 5 children. Sarah, Ruth, Pheobe, John & James.
Ruth died in 1804, & John died in 1811, both are buried in the Quaker cemetery.
