SMH - NEWELL, Russell Robert, 28 August, 1968, at hospital, late of 8 Juliette Ave, Punchbowl, dearly loved husband of Alice, loved brother of Beryl (Mrs. Coneeley), & fond brother-in-law of Elva (Mrs. Blair), Jim, Ed, & loving uncle of their families, beloved son of Mr.& Mrs.Leslie Newell, loved son-in-law of Mr. Matthew Brookfield & the late Mrs. Alice Brookfield. Aged 53 years.
FUNERAL - the friends of the late RUSSELL ROBERT NEWALL,are asked to attend his funeral tomorrow, to leave St Barnabas CofE, Punchbowl, after a service at 9.45am. At the conclusion of the service the funeral will leave for Rookwood Crematorium.
Russell Newell died Prince Alfred Hospital, Newtown, He was cremated at Rookwood Crematorium, Ashes were interred at St. Barnabas CofE, Punchbowl. When St Barnabas was sold to an ethnic group, they insisted all the ashes be removed, so Russell's ashes were transferred to St. Saviours Punchbowl (on Canterbury Rd). Most people were notified of the transfer of the ashes from St Barnabas, but Alice only found out about it from her neighbours. She was very distressed about it at the time. At Alice's request she had Russells ashes moved to the Camellia Garden at Palmdale Cemetery.
