Hi Jane - I too looked at that 1861 Census, but as I didn't know their Grandmother's name, I gave up, thanks for your perserverence. I stopped looking when you replied to me in 1998.
1/3/2007 - Wasted some time looking for Thomas & Lydia's Marriage on the Free BMD Internet, but the only one that looked anything like promising was for a Thomas Dawson to a Lydia Harrison in 2nd Qtr 1877 in Oldham Lanc, but it seems too early, 5 years before the 1st child was born.?? Besides I seem to remember sometimes they went to Methodist or Wesleyan Churches, & they haven't all been put on Free BMD. I still have a 14 page printout of the "Family History Library Catalog dated 5 Mar 1998" for ALL of the Churches in Keighley, looking for Thomas & Susannah's marriage. I've obviously looked at 3 or 4 Films, others I have marked the years are too early or too late, I also looked for childrens births, baptisms but with no luck, because now I know they were in Silsden. Gee there was a lot of Churches in Keighley at the time.!!
Next Wednesday I'll look for Edith again, because I don't know whether the one I found is right, why was she born in Keighley?? & I'll look for Roland & Norman, it takes a long time rolling films on & off by hand on the Micro Film Readers, nothing too flash over there. I can only book for 1hour for a Computor & 2 hours for the Microfilm or the Microfiche Readers.
There's another thought I've had - Usually one of the sons usually is given the mothers maiden name as a middle name. I asked a couple of people around me if I had the name George Redmile transcribed right, because it doesn't look like that on the 1891 Census, (looks like Vamond?) & when I found Wilfred he didn't have a middle name!! But what do you think of the eldest daughters name?? Zenobia? The Librarian told me "I told you so!" it's good to have other peoples help, sometime. Hubert & Theresa look like a "C" but when you look again it could be an "E", Edith didn't have a middle initial, thats why I'm not sure if it's right. And we don't know if they had other children after 1901, & if they babies that died, Oh well thats Family History. Is there some way you can look at Church records without having to travel many miles or spend many pounds?? To hire a Film in 1998 cost me about $4., in 2007 I think the cost is $6.80. I don't mind the cost, but what to hire is the question. They said the children were born in one place on the Census, but BMD say another place? (yes I know they went to the nearest Reg. Office)
Notice Hubert got the middle name of Emmott. One of these days I'll post to you the letter I was writting to you a couple of Xmas's ago about the Emmott family, but it'll keep for now. Anyway lots of love for now.
