John Dawson was born on 21 Dec, 1851 at Townfield Rd, Keighley Yks. His mother was Susannah Dawson formerly Smith. His father Thomas Dawson was a Warehouseman. (I applied for his Birth certificate on 5/7/1985)
He was a Master Builder. He was a Free Settler, travelling from England to Australia through South Africa, where they couldn't find any work. They arrived in Sydney Australia in 1883 on the S.S."Percussier" with a couple of his mates including George Ellis, where they found work the next day. He married Annie Ellis in 1885 at St. David's CofE in Surry Hills Sydney.
He died in 1920 age 68yrs from bowel cancer at Chelmsford Ave, Cronulla where he & his 2 sons -Tom & Selwyn had built many houses. John & Anne are buried at Woronora CofE Cemetery, Sutherland Sec BBB lot 28, with John's sister Mary Bradley.
SMH - John William Dawson - died 19 May, 1920, at his son's residence, Chelmford Ave, Cronulla, beloved husband of Ann Dawson, late of Enfield, aged 68 yrs.
