9/5/1985 -- 1871 Census - Found Job & Ann Turner living at No 18 Phillip St, Bath., Bath. Mary Elizabeth was the eldest of seven children, she was 17years old.
Also 1985 - Looked at 1841 & 1851 Census of Bristol for Charles Grist & family with no luck.
24/4/1985 Archives of NSW Assistant. Immigrants- Film No.26469.
John Grist 33yrs Labourer, paid 4 pounds from Somerset, Methodist & Mary Elizabeth 30yrs Paid 2 pounds.
Walter H. 8 yrs, paid 1 pound,.. Winifred 5yrs paid 1pound,... & Ada 1yr, paid 0pound, all from Somerset.
"Lusitania" arrived 15th Feb, 1884 -- Reel 4/5027. No relatives in the Colony.
1985 - Sydney State Library -" 1st Steam Tramway started on Tuesday 16th Sept,1879, the day before the opening of the International Exhibition at the Palace Gardens. The next year 1880, the Oxford St. extension - running to Randwick Race Course was finished. Photo was taken on corner of King & Elizabeth Sts, Sydney on 8/4/1882 in SMHerald. Also Photo of Tramcar on the corner of Oxford & Crown Sts, on 19/1/1884, in SMHerald. John Grist was brought out to Aust. for the 1st Steam Trams at Randwick Workshops. He was an Engineer.
Oct 1988 Looked at IGI again dated July 1985, There are only 13 enteries for Grist.--- No Charles Grist in Somerset at all!! 1 in Devon, 9 in Essex. Only Charles Grist b14/10/1863 son of William Grist, born Kelvedon near Colchester, Essex. Also a family of John & Eliz Grist in Mundon, Essex - not our family.
1/5/1990 - Looked at St Catherines birth & marriages again from 1840 to 1850 for John Grists death with no luck.
Found parents Marriage - Charles Grist to Caroline Elizabeth Morgan at Bristol, 3rd Qtr 1842 -(XI 153)
1/5/1990 -Also found marriage of Job Turner to Ann Denman at Bristol 2nd Qtr 1852 - (6a 61). Also found Birth of Elizabeth Mary Turner on 2nd Qtr 1853, Bath (5c 719). But didn't apply for them at the time much to my regret.
12/5/1994 Received Walter & Winifred's Grist birth cert. from St Caths. when I was in England.
16/7/1996 " Ada Grist's birth cert. from St Cath's.
4/7/1996 " Winifred's marriage cert. from New Zealand. She was married to John Arthur Jackson on 22/9/1926 at St James Presbyterian Church Wellington, New Zealand. (Wilma paid for it).
23/5/1996 Looked thru St.Caths for a birthday on 13th July ???? for a WAP Grist mentioned in G.Grandfather birthday diary that Wilma has. Looked from 1860 &1900 with no luck. Then I realised much later that it stood for Dorothy Ada Pearl.(a bad "D")
SMH - Death's - GRIST - 31st March, 1920, JOHN FISHER GRIST, late of High St, Waverley, aged 75years.
FUNERAL - The rels & friends of the late Mr. JOHN FISHER GRIST, late of High St, Waverley, are invited to attend his funeral; to leave our parlor to-morrow Saturday morning, at 10.15am, for Waverley Cemetery.
I visited Waverley Cemetery for a walkabout on 5 Nov, 1998, & took some photos of the grave Sec 21, grave 317 His name is not on the headstone?? But why did he die as John Fisher Grist ?? who was "Fisher" his mothers maiden name was Morgan.
2010 -- Wilma had worked out that Mary Fisher was his grandmother.!!
