Abt 1985 Looked on the IGI for Charles Grist with no luck.
1/5/1990 Found marriage - Charles Grist to Caroline Elizabeth Morgan at Bristol 3rd Qtr 1842 -X1 153 But didn't apply for it, much to my regret.
20/7/2001 After looking for nearly 15yrs, today I found Charles Grist on the 1851 Census. He & his family lived in the little village of Limpley Stoke near Bradford on Avon in Wiltshire. Great grandfather John Grist was 2yrs old. He had 2 older sisters, Sarah 10yrs, & Julia 3yrs, that we didn't know about. We thought he had a brother Charles, who wasn't on the 1851 census. Now I have to look at the 1861 census.
27/7/2001 Also found another family in Mason St, Bradford of Elizabeth Grist age 47yrs, "Husband out - who is an Engineer" born Bradford, & 8 children all born in Bradford. Charles 14, Emma 12, Harriet 10, Ann 9, Elizabeth 7, George 5, Louise 3, & Eliza 1yr. I couldn't find her husband. I think his name was William, because I found the birth of the eldest child Charles on the IGI, born 30/8/1836 when I was looking for my Charles Grist born abt 1820 in Bath or Bristol. Now I know it was Bradford on Avon !!! But he's not on the IGI.
3/8/2001 Applied for the Parish Records for Limpley Stoke in Bradford, Wiltshire but couldn't find the Grists there.
Sept/2001 Found the Grist family on the 1861 Census in Upper Limpley Stoke. John's brother Charles that I've been looking for was 3yrs old, born in 1858. Still haven't been able to find them on St. Catherines.
6/10/01 Found a Charles Grist on the 1881 Census in Midsomer Norton, Somerset, with a wife Mary, he was 21yrs old & she was 19yrs. They said they were born in Welton, Somerset but that could be just where she was born. Midsomer Norton is not very far south of Bath on the A367 highway to Radstock then right to Midsomer Norton. Limpley Stoke is down further on the A367 south of Bath, then left on the B3110, before you get to the A36 highway.
Wilma has found the family on the 1841 Census. It says Charles was 40yrs old ?? a Publican. There is no wife. Thomas was 15yrs, a Millwright Apprentice, Mary was 10yrs, Louisa 8yrs, Matilda 6yrs, Emily 5yrs, & Jane 2yrs, and they lived at 443 St.Margarets St, Bradford on Avon.
