Ray Cruwys has fond memories of his grandfather. He described him as a "funny little man" who used to play chasings with Ray & his cousin "Denny" Brownlee. Grandfather Watts used to save his pennies & halfpennies in brown paper bags, which he would give to Ray & Denny on their birthdays.
Ray & Gwen Cruwys remember "Gran Watts" as a "likeable character" who used to visit her daughter Irene, in Massey St. She used to travel by tram to & from Rozelle to Gladesville at least once a month for dinner on a Sunday night. She was a forthright person who "spoke her mind". She was also "the local money lender" to close friends in Balmain. Gwen remembers a little notebook that she kept as a record of her "transactions".
