Narrative

Thomas & Henry were both Baptised on the 19 August, 1827, at St. Peters Church, Campbelltowm, by Rev. Thomas Hassell. Parents John & Elizabeth Ashcroft, of Narrellan Parish, Settler. They were both
born at Narellan.
Thomas & Margaret Ashcroft grazed cattle & sheep, & established wholesale & retail meat industry, carried on by their son E.J.Ashcroft. Ashcroft's butcher shop with its adjoining residence was on the corner of Macquarie St & Memorial Ave. When it was demolished the sharp corner of the road was rounded off & the Rural Bank was built on the site. Thomas Ashcroft ran The Cricketers Arms Inn in Forbes St. in 1853, then later The Woolpack Inn on Campbelltown Rd. After Thomas died in 1867, his wife Mrs Margaret Ashcroft was the proprietess of the Family Hotel where the Mainsbridge Hotel is now. (Liverpool Library notes)
