Les was born at 14 Hawthorne St, Leichhardt, probably before the Canal was built, his father was 39yrs old & a Compositor with the Government Printing Office, his mother was 44yrs old. He went to Kegworth Public School in Leichhardt.
Leslie joined the Merchant Navy after the 1st WW, he served until 1927. He joined up again in 1939 & served through to the end of 2nd WW. He is recorded as UNKNOWN BONGERS ???
SMH - BONGERS, Leslie - 18 May, 1971, at hospital, late of 6 Albion St, Concord, loved husband of Molly, father of Ruth & Keith, f-in-law of Shirley, devoted grandfather of their children, aged 72 years.
FUNERAL - The rels & friends of the late LESLIE BONGERS, of Concord, are invited to his funeral, to leave our Chapel, Burwood, to-morrow, Friday after a service at 1.10pm, for Rookwood Crematorium.
